BCU Presents “Christmas at the Orpheum”
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Briar Cliff University’s
Department of Music will present
“Christmas at the Orpheum” at 7:30 p.m.
on Friday, Nov. 21 at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Downtown
Sioux City.
The concert will feature hundreds of the
region’s finest musicians, including the Sioux City Symphony
Orchestra and the distinguished choral traditions of Briar Cliff
University, Grace United Methodist Church and Morningside
Lutheran Church. Soloist Shannon Salyards and pianist Richard
Steinbach will be highlighted concert performers.
A program of uplifting seasonal music,
“Christmas at the Orpheum” will include a variety of a
cappella choral, orchestral, concerto and choral-orchestral
selections by composers Georges Bizet, Alexander Gretchaninoff,
Edvard Grieg, Howard Helvey, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Arvo Pärt
and Mack Wilberg.
“‘Christmas at the Orpheum’ is a sojourn that
bears witness to a genuinely inspired tradition of historic
Western music composed in the last 500 years,” said artistic
director Sean Burton, assistant professor of music and director
of choral activities at Briar Cliff. “We are delighted to
present a wholly uplifting program of diverse musical
literature, which will both engage and entertain. Concertgoers
can count on an invigorating musical journey in anxious
anticipation of Christ’s birth.”
